Retro Gameboy colour games:
Games such as Links Awakening use tiles in order to create the environment.
The overarching game itself in this case involve the player walking around environments collecting items and exploring dungeons. using the tiles to build the screens and then using assets to the put alongside these tiles to add more depth into the game. Links awakening is also one of those games where the story isnt all there the moment you boot up the game as the player has to uncover it either via dialogue or via reading up about it in game. the open world of this game is stunningly put together not allowing you to get too far without a certain object yet allowing you to have free reign of the world around you without feeling constricted in any way. the game has a very simple inventory system in which stores a small amount of objects to be used within the game. Link collects these and uses them to advance on in the story.

the title screen contains the logo within it and due to this game having multiple sequels the logo is reused over and over again - as the game i will be designing is a one off special one shot indie game the logo is just going to be the title screen just because i have no future plans to expand upon the game. the logo here is limted in colour and design but is also mysterious and exciting to look at - the player sees an egg but doesnt know what egg be contain
Pokemon gold and silver are among my favourite games and they are so via their simplicity - you walk you catch and train pokemon and you become the champion twice. these games use the tiling function much like links awakening to build the world up - in this case however water tiles are just straight edged up to the land and makes it look a little ugly.
as seen here the game uses a lot of duplicated trees in order to make up the world and this is wasted space in order to stop the player from getting where they arent allowed to be.
the game itself contains 252 pokemon sprites and all of these are done in a way that allows them all to have a personality behind them - each one is so well made that the series is known for having such lovable characters
